DIY Roundup

I know I've been lacking in the DIY posts, I can only blame pure laziness. That and the fact that finding good tutorials has been hard lately! Nobody seems to be doing many unique things. Anyways, these are what I have come up with ! I LOVE the marbles mug and amethyst mirror. I think I need both of them in my life ASAP.

Make this beautiful amethyst mirror!

DIY Coffee Blend

I love coffee as much as the next 'gal, but you know what I love even more? Fancy coffee; French vanilla, hazelnut topped with whipped cream...the works. So after buying pre-made coffee blends (and by that I mean instant mix because I'm a lazy lady), I decided to make my own. You can even wrap it up nicely as a gift!

Coffee Tea Print Typography I like big cups - 11x14 Poster wall art decor kitchen Starbucks white cup mustard yellow brown tan taupe. , via Etsy.

You will need:
Four vanilla beans
Cinnamon and/or nutmeg 2 tsp
1 lb freshly ground coffee beans

Deciding whether to use cinnamon or nutmeg in your blend is a personal choice, I like nutmeg but others don't. Or make one of each!

Another choice is what type of coffee beans! I like medium fair trade coffee from Kenya,

1. Mix two teaspoons of your choice
Into a pound of freshly ground coffee beans,
2. Scrape the seeds from the vanilla beans and mix them into the blend as we (just slice it up the side and open it, then scrape away!).

How to use fresh vanilla beans

What do you think?

Cheers!

DIY Roundup: heels

I was never a heel girl, I wore Doc Martens to all weddings and dates until my graduation prom where I bought my first pair and immediately regretted not have buying them soon. Now I try to make up excuses just to wear them,

Like most girls, I have a lot of simple heels. After doing a little digging I found some AMAZING upgrades that I will be doing to all my schools. These are even good for boots!

THIS tutorial is so easy! Plus it's really cheap to do. I have a lot of simple heels that could use a little pop like this.

This diy takes a simply pair of heels and turns them into a stylish punk pair! I love them.

this DIY is the most crazy one! They're like chandelier heels! I'm not sure If I hate them or love them.

I'm not a big bling sort of gal, but This diy is so lovely, it adds enough stones to make a statement, without being overwhelming!

Are you going to be upgrading your heel collection? I will be!

DIY Round up: Wall Art.

I'm a huge fan of diy, not only because it's fun and affordable, but also because I like having things in my house that I MADE, not bought. It makes me love the piece so much more than if I had bought it from the store. Here are some beaaauutiful DIY to sprucen up your wall!

Weekly Roundup: Tutorials and DIY's

This weeks DIY roundup are some of my favourites! I'm almost tempted to stop dying my hair black so I can give myself temporary lavender hair. Wouldn't it look lovely on a bride in a woodland theme wedding? This one's going on my Pinterest wedding board,

This beautiful lady has temporary dyed hair! TEMPORARY PURPLE HAIR! Now, if you don't know, I had bright blue hair for three whole years. If i didn't have black hair I would be in the bathroom right now giving myself lavender hair.

I have been looking at polaroid coasters for so long! They are so lovely and unique. One of my all time favourite DIY's I have to say.

Homemade gift bags made out of newspapers is an environmentally friendly - and wallet friendly - alternative to buying dozens of bags year after year.

These paint chip bookmarks are super cute! Although I have to admit, I'm a page bender when it comes to reading, but if I had these I'd probably find books to read just so I could use them!

Which one is your favourite?

Cheers!

How to make a beautiful terrarium

How to make your own terrarium:
                 #Terrarium
I love plants. I have about eight plants in an apartment that should fit four. I just can't help it! Tropicals, succulents, ivy...I've got it all. Terrariums are an excellent way to have your own little personal garden!
Here is my DIY on how to make your own terrarium.

Materials to Purchase
1. The container - i'd recommend either a glass vase or a glass jar.
2. 3,5,or 7 plants (this odd numbered arrangement tends to be more interesting than even numbered arrangements), I personally love succulent gardens with shrubbery and greens, but you can use anything you find beautiful! greens, flowers, herbs, weeds.....
3. potting soil
4. some stones for around the plants or below the soil (You can pick small stones the size of marbles from your backyard and save a bit of money here)

             Another World Succulent Garden Terrarium

Making the Terrarium
1. Put a one inch layer of stones in the bottom of your terrarium.
2. Fill the container about half full of potting soil
3. Remove the plants from their plastic pots and arrange them in your terrarium. Move this arrangement around looking for something that pleases you.
4. Once you have found an arrangement you like fill in the gaps with soil and tap out any extra.
5. Water with a moderate amount of water.
6. Put the terrarium in a place with moderate to direct sunlight.

            Another World Large Desert Centerpiece
Caring for your terrarium
A terrarium is really easy to care for. Check on it every day and stick your finger in the soil. If it is dry then water it. Examine the bottom of the terrarium. If there is water among the stones then you should not water it for a few days.  - make sure if you are using succulents that you let it dry out completely before watering it! Keeping those types of plants constantly wet or damp will kill it,

Terrariums make for the best gifts ! Teachers, family, friends... anyone. Who wouldn't love to get their own personal garden? It definatly beats any regular plant.

Tada! There you have it, your very own terrarium.

DIY: Liquid Handsoap

I've been trying to make our apartment more environmentally friendly. First stop: homemade liquid hand soap!

I know what your probably thinking. "But Rowan, if we're making liquid hand soap, why are you showing us a picture of a bunch of soap bars?" Well, liquid hand soap can be made from soap bars - mine sure are!

What you will need:
- a 4 ounce bar of soap
-2 quarts of water
-a metal grater
-a large pot
-hand mixer or wisk
-1 container for dispensing
-1 container for storage of extra

Pinned Image

1. Grate the soap into a fine pile.
2. Then heat the water and as the water begins to simmer, mix in the grated soap and mix well.
3. Remove from heat and let sit for 15 minutes. Mix it well again!
4. Let the mixture sit over night. Then stir it to test consistency, if it's too thick you can reheat and add more water, and if it's too think you can reheat and add more soap. Don't forget to keep mixing it well.
5. Pour it into you're lovely soap dispenser, and store the rest in an the container

It's cheap, easy, fun and eco friendly - I don't think you could beat that unless you robbed a Walmart.
Don't forget, you can get all kinds of colours and smells by buying the different types of soaps. Etsy has tons of handmade soaps that have all sorts of soaps. Turkish coffee soap is one that stands out to me.

Hint: Within the next few weeks i'll be posting a how to on making mason jar dispensers.

Vegetables that can regrow themselves.

Yes, you read the title correctly. There are indeed thirteen vegetables that can regrow themselves, and pretty much all of them are from a piece or the stem...meaning you can eat most of it and then regrow it again! whaaat! I know, I know, I'll let that sink in. Infinite food supply? possibly. Probable? No. Magical? Most definatly. It's probably much easier to go to the grocery store, and you will probably die if you depend on the regrowth on eating...but it's fun to watch! And it's a fun family activity for kids!
garlic art print // Lovely vegetables series // 6x8 print
I couldn't help but add this adorable etsy print
Here are the magical vegetables, click each name to go to instructions on growing  care:

1. Ginger Root
2. Scallions
3. Garlic
4. Sweet Potato
5. Lettuce
6. Bok Choy
7. Carrots
8. Onions
9. Pineapple
10. Basil
11. Lemongrass
12. Avocado
13. Celery
Some of these take much longer to do...as in ten years longer...but a year you can easily do in your kitchen. I have green onions growing in a beer pint on top of my stove. It grows like a weed!

I'm a sucker for stuff like this.

Peace.
