DIY Halloween costume ideas

It's that wonderful time of year again! Where summer suddenly dies and we run face first into everything pumpkin flavoured. Oh yeah, and it's a month before halloween and everyone's talking about what their going to wear. Halloween is always my favourite, yet somehow each year I plan to make a super-awesome-unique costume and usually end up being a vulcan from Star Trek. Every year. Except that one year where I was a vulcan zombie because my boyfriend has extra fake blood. Anyways, this year I SWEAR I'm going to be something totally awesome. Like Susie from Moonrise Kingdom, or a mermaid, or Susie from Moonrise Kingdom. I think I'm going to be Susie.

All you need is a long sleeved peter pan collared dress, white knee highs, oxfords and binoculars.
I can't be fabulous today. My Wonder Woman costume is at the cleaners.
One year, when I'm super buff, I'll be wonderwoman and wear a pantless suit.

Star Trek costumes always win.

This pin is a lengthy (really lengthy) list of custom ideas with links to directions. There are SO many costume ideas! Of course, I love the 3-D glasses above. Cute, easy, and you can still feel like a girl without being "Slutty [Fill-In-The-Blank]," which seems to be about the only option for female costumes anymore.
I saw these two dresses and FELL IN LOVE! Sadly she closed up her shop and is no longer making these items. *sigh*

Things I'm loving: Coral and aqua combo

I've been really digging the colour combination of coral and aqua! Or teal or turquoise.  I'm not a pink person generally. But I love it!

These simple aqua and coral centerpieces made a beautiful statement at this bride and groom's wedding at Wildwood. #aqua #centerpiece #coral #flowers #wedding #reception

Artist Spolit: Emmanuelle Brisson.

I love Emmanuelle Brissons work. I mean, I love, love, love Brissons work. I enjoy the variety, the fuzziness, the simplicity and quietness of his work. It's just beautiful!

He also does series, my favourite one is where he has two pictures side by side. A portrait on the left and a landscape on the right.

Every single photo he has in his portfolio is just lovely and simple, some can be bizarre - in a good way! - but they all just have a quiet feel to them, it's like spending a rainy day with no technology and reading and drinking tea. That's how they make me feel!

If you havn't already, check Emmanuelle Brissons website out! Of course, the website is in a different language, so make sure to turn on your Google translate!

Cheers!

Weekly Roundup: Tutorials and DIY's

This weeks DIY roundup are some of my favourites! I'm almost tempted to stop dying my hair black so I can give myself temporary lavender hair. Wouldn't it look lovely on a bride in a woodland theme wedding? This one's going on my Pinterest wedding board,

This beautiful lady has temporary dyed hair! TEMPORARY PURPLE HAIR! Now, if you don't know, I had bright blue hair for three whole years. If i didn't have black hair I would be in the bathroom right now giving myself lavender hair.

I have been looking at polaroid coasters for so long! They are so lovely and unique. One of my all time favourite DIY's I have to say.

Homemade gift bags made out of newspapers is an environmentally friendly - and wallet friendly - alternative to buying dozens of bags year after year.

These paint chip bookmarks are super cute! Although I have to admit, I'm a page bender when it comes to reading, but if I had these I'd probably find books to read just so I could use them!

Which one is your favourite?

Cheers!

The blogisphere is boring me

You probably have noticed my lack of posts lately. Simply put, the blogisphere is boring me. Every blog seems to be uninspiring. Sure, recipe posts are interesting, especially when it's about a neat food. So are drink recipes. And diy's. And home style. But  Idon't want to read a recipe every single day on every blog, and I don't want to see a million styled homes every week. I need more substance! I want blog posts that have more thought and soul to them!

What this is all coming down to, is I am inspired and in a rut.  I just don't feel like making jewelry or writing blog posts. Heck, I havn't even updated my facebook status. Anyways, I am waiting for a lightning bolt of inspiration and drive to strike me so I can start back up on everything.

Cheers.

The Modern House: Inspirational homes

Ever since moving into the loft apartment I've been searching the internet for inspiring home styles. Our apartment is our home, but it's not stylish or wonderful....yet. Actually, right now it just looks like the average college students home - one or two posters on the wall and a couple plants. Oh well.

The premise of minimum wage quote

This was an interesting quote I saw today, I don't know who wrote it, so if you know let me know!
I know a lot of people disagree with this, but I agree 100%.

"The premise of minimum wage, when it was introduced, was that a single wage earner should be able to own a home and support a family. That was what it was based on; a full time job, any job, should be able to accomplish this.

The fact people scoff at this idea if presented nowadays, as though the people that ring up your groceries or hand you your burgers don’t deserve the luxury of a home and a family, is disgusting."

What are your thoughts?

Things I like: flower pressing

When I was younger, my Mom bought me this beautiful flower press with purple flowers on the front. Ever since, it has been a favourite hobby of mine! The very first time Dusty bought me flowers (I was sick so he brought them home with ginger ale!) I pressed them in a little notebook. I'm going to put them in a frame. Wouldn't it be nice to be an old couple and still have the first flowers he bought me?
Whenever I look though my flower pressing notebook I always remember what I was doing when I picked them, whether it was a date walk, or a hike with an old friend. That's one reason I love them!

This is some lovely ferns and babies breather, from the dainty squid, the page is a How-To- for pressing flowers.

I found this beauty on Pinterest, that is such a good idea! It almost makes me want to buy an Iphone just so I could do this.

I hope this inspired you to go pick some flowers!

Cheers!

Traveler's Tree will be donating %15 to charity

As some of you know, I own Traveler's Tree Jewelry. As a business owner, I try to be as ethical as I can when purchasing materials. I don't purchase things on ebay. I buy from real people, people who also have a small business. The thing about own an indie business is that it becomes a part of you, it's like your child. With that I try to be the best business woman I can to run something that shows my values.  I chose to donate 15% of proceeds from Traveler's Tree to the Not for Sale Campaign that helps interfere with human trafficking and slavery and helps aid woman and children who are victims. Proceeds from every Etsy sale, craft show or work lunch room sale are donated.

Human trafficking is one of the largest industries in the world, right below gun and drug trafficking.
I know I am still a baby business, and %15 doesn't seem like much when I only make a few dozen sales a year, but a small contribution is still a contribution, and everything helps.

I know this is off topic, but I just wanted to share the news.

Cheers!
